Meeting Your Younger Self: A Powerful EFT Practice

I’m not usually one for social media trends, but a rather lovely one caught my attention recently – ‘I met my younger self for coffee’.

Maybe you’ve seen it? People write about what it would be like to meet their younger selves - imagining sitting across from them in a café, seeing the worries they carried back then, and reflecting on all that’s changed since.

It’s a beautiful concept, and it reminds me of one of the most profound ways I use EFT tapping and inspired me to share a little bit about how it works…

………………………………………

Memories in EFT Tapping

When we use techniques like EFT Tapping - whether that’s by ourselves or with a practitioner - memories often come up. Sometimes they come with an emotional intensity that surprises us.

When this happens, it’s usually because a part of us, a younger version of ourselves, is still holding onto something that we didn’t know how to process at the time.

It could be sadness, fear, or even something seemingly small like confusion.

And because that version of us still exists within us, so do those emotions – held in our nervous system, waiting for a chance to be acknowledged.

These moments are invitations for us to do the work to process, clear and ultimately heal that part of ourselves - in turn allowing ourselves to live happier more fulfilling lives in the present, free from whatever that part of us was holding on to.

Tapping with Your Younger Self

I often guide clients through a practice where they imagine sitting with their younger self in a safe place (in a remarkably similar way to the recent social media trend!).

In this practice, we use tapping to help them tune into and have a conversation with that younger version of themselves and really listen to what they’re experiencing.

If it feels right - I encourage their present self to feel the emotions that younger version of them is holding on to whilst we tap gently to release them…allowing the body to process what was once too much to handle.

And then, I hold space for them to offer that versions of themselves whatever they needed but never received at the time: often love, reassurance and compassion.

The Result?

When done in a gentle, safe way, this work can be deeply moving and cathartic.

It often brings tears and sometimes big revelations.

But almost always, it creates a sense of peace, as though a weight we didn’t even realise we were carrying has been lifted.

Because healing isn’t just about moving forward - it’s also about tending to the parts of us that got left behind.

Working with Care

It’s important to say that this kind of work should always be done carefully.

If you’re new to EFT, I’d encourage you to wait until you’re very familiar with the technique before diving into something this deep.

And if it ever feels unsafe, that’s your cue to step back.

But, when the time is right, this practice can be deeply healing.

That younger version of you is still a part of you. And they deserve to be heard, understood, and freed from whatever they’ve been holding onto for all these years.

Ready to experience EFT for yourself?

If you’re curious about EFT Tapping and this type of work but not sure where to begin, you don’t have to do this alone - working with a practitioner can make all the difference.

If you would like to find out more or try EFT Tapping for yourself, I’d be delighted to support you.
